MATCH REPORT | CD Torrevieja 4 CD Segorbe 1. Duran, Duran (Duran)

Duran, Duran (Duran)

Simon Le Bon's 80s hit band repeated their name but CD Torrevieja's hit man went one better with a treble - and boy was he "Hungry like the Wolf!" It has been some time since a Torry man bagged a hatrick but the battling midfielder, in only his second full start was unstoppable, delighting fans with his very own "View to a Kill"

CD Torrevieja now travel to Silla on Sunday seeking a fifth win in six games. This latest success lifted them out of the relegation places and means that their fate now rests in their own hands, with eight games of the season remaining. It has come late in the day, but Torry are at last playing championship football.

Despite Segorbe being bottom of the table with only two wins all term, there were anxieties before the game as Torry had a long list of injured and suspended players. These included first choice keeper Jose Carlos, last year's player of the year, Luis Carlos, captain and star player Javi Meca, as well as crack goal scorer Beltran. However, returning to the starting line up was Sergio Duran, who had only made one full appearance to date, but he was ready to steal the show.

The show got underway with two near misses for Torry in the first two minutes, the ball scorching across the Sergorbe goal and Molina and Borja Mir just failing to get the slight touch that would see it home. The lineman then penalised a perfectly good Molina goal, electing to judge others offside and interfering with play. Torry continued to batter the Segorbe goal with Lewis Allen trying a spectacular effort, as well as more speculative shots form Molina and the fiercesome Martin, who was always in the thick of things. Duran got it on the act, cracking the ball against the bar with a rasping drive.

Torry had nothing to show for their first half dominance, but surely it was only a matter of time before that opening goal was etched upon the scoreboard. Indeed it did arrive early in the second half, following another howler from the referee who missed a blatant foul in the centre cirle, allowing Segorbe to claim possession and proceed to set up striker Borja to take Segorbe's first shot on goal in the 53rd minute of play. The visitors could not believe their luck and fans around the stadium were silenced - but not for long.

Grafting away in the middle of the park, Duran made a decisive forward run and was picked out perfectly by Kana with a sweet cross from the left. The stadium erupted as Torry made it 1-1. Four minutes later it was substitute Damian's turn to turn provider and again Duran was bang on cue to put Torry ahead. The intense midfielder whom a section of fans called "Razor", because like "Razor" Ruddick, he carries a bit of condition, was not finished yet. This time he took the corner from the left and outwitted Aviles in the Segorbe goal by putting his kick straight into the net. It has been quite some time since a Torry player netted a hatrick and fans enjoyed it as much as he did.

It had been one way traffic throughout the game and now Torry's dominance was being realised. Alejandro Pastor rounded off a grand day by timing his jump to perfection from a Vicente Boix cross and heading home to complete the scoring. The win moves Torry on to 29 points equal with Bunol, but ahead of them in the table, as Torry has beaten that opponent both home and away. It also sees them within two points of Almazora who visit the Nelson Mandela next month. But first, this good run and positive attitude has to continue on the road as Torry make the trip to mid table Silla who have only been beaten four times on their home turf all seasom, three of those to the top four promotion candidates. Torry are more than capable of adding their name to this list of winning top teams and completing a glorious month of March.
