  Run comes to an End

Torry lost 1-0 to top four placed Alzira with a well taken header 11 minutes into the second half, bringing their three match winning run to an end.

Alzira gradually wore down a tense Torry side with an impeccable defensive display and a more competitive performance in midfield. Torry missed Duran in the centre of the park, although he did come on after an hour, but by that time the visitors were well in the driving seat. Sadly for Torry, goalkeeper Jose Carlos got injured and was replaced at the interval by Buba. To date, Jose Carlos has only conceded one goal and that was from the penalty spot in Castellon. He has been more than a lucky talisman for the club and perhaps he may have been able to keep another clean sheet in this contest had injury not intervened.

The first half was tentative with both sides respecting the form of the other and making sure no mistakes were made. Alzira has built their promotion challenge on a rugged and ruthlessly disciplined defence and so it was again in this match. Despite the pace and work of Lewis and Pastor, Torry could not find a way through. Torry were striving to contain an Alzira side growing in confidence as the match progressed and Martin found himself under pressure in the midfield and gave the ball away, but Torry survivied the scares.

By the end of the half Torry were lucky to be level as a late surge from Alzira saw them skim the far post with a clinical drive forward. Torry were looking second best with the visitors now assured that indeed they were the promotion chasing outfit and Torry the relegation threatened opposition. However, fans remained hopeful that the Salineros could continue their unbeteaten run and secure a point, with the possibility of sneaking a goal and lifting all three.

But facts and the league table rarely lie. Only one team - league leaders Olimpic - has conceded fewer goals than Alzira, who can boast letting in only 19 from 31 matches, whilst Torry has only once club - bottom side Segorbe - who has conceded more. With 54 goals conceded in 31 matches, it looked ominous. With second choice keeper Buba now in goal, Alzira pressed forward with conviction. A cross from the right was pin perfect from Tendillo and Alvaro found himself in space and picked his spot well away from a bereft Buba. It was the breakthrough they craved and worked hard to achieve and with confidence in their own rearguard, they believed the match and points as good as won.

The introduction of Molina for Borja Mir and Duran for Dani Salazar provided a boost for Torry, with Duran showing that his positioning and bite in the midfield is seriously needed. Molina almost salvaged a point when he met a cross from the left and guided his header on to the post with Doiz in the Alzira goal unable to get to it. However, that was the final flurry from the home side who had to admit they were second best on the day. They struggled to get a fluent rhythm into their game and were edged out of it in the battle for the middle of the park. It was a pity that Jose Carlos sustained an injury as he is in tremendous form and may possibly have kept another clean sheet.

The fight for survival re-starts again, once more at home when Torry host rock bottom club Segorbe who are all but relegated, having amassed only two wins and twelve points from 32 games. It is a great chance for Torry to add three more points to their tally in that bid to stay in the third division. As it is Fathers Day, the match kicks off at 11.45 to allow families to get together for lunch - and hopefully to celebrate a Torry victory!
