    Old Boys and New Boys

Fans swept into the Nelson Mandela for this derby contest wondering if they would recognise their team as no less than six new players had been signed since the last home game. Nico, Lucas, Adrian, Robles, Soto and Calzado are the new boys but only centre half Calzado started the game. And boy did he make a good impression, only denied  the man of the match award by virtue of some incredible second half saves from Buba in the Torry goal. Old friends hugged each other as Vicente, Pastor, Ruben and Brani all greeted each other warmly pre-match, these four having played for both sides. Once the whistle went, it was down to business.
Torry started the game brightly and it was very much against the run of play when the visitors opened the scoring on 19 minutes. Buba punched clear but in doing so came far off his line. As the ball was returned into the box, he and several of his defenders were "missing" and Alberto was one of four Ilicitano men who were unmarked and he hooked the ball home in emphatic fashion.  This quietened the home support, but not for long as Torry continued to play some very attractive build up play.
In less than five minutes Pastor had levelled the game. Damian saw the Oz bound winger make his dash and pushed through a slide rule pass through that saw Pastor one on one with Juanma in the opposition goal. His first shot was saved by the keeper, but he pounced on the rebound and stuck it home in no uncertain fashion. When Pastor returns to Australia in January, he will be sorely missed, especially as he has scored four out of Torry´s last six goals, only Hugo and Matheus netting since Lewis hit home in the defeat by Muro six weeks ago.
Missing from this match was manager Pedreño. who had lost a close relative, for which a minute´s silence was held at the start of the match. He returns for the long haul to Almazora on Sunday, but will still be in the stands, completing his suspension. In his absence, his lads did him proud, battling strongly, never flinching from any challenge and always looking to play exciting and attacking football. Those deemed overly aggressive were Calzado, Lewis and Dani Salazar, who all ended up in the referee´s notebook.
Torry will feel this is two points dropped rather than one won. Damian saw his first half shot graze the upright. Pastor was clearly impeded in the box when attempting to get on the end of a left wing cross. Matheus scorned a great chance with only Juanma to beat and Luis Carlos worked his magic in the Ilicitano box, jinxing past defender after defender only to be denied by an excellent stop from the keeper.
At the other end, Buba earned his corn. He made two incredible stops when goals looked certain and in this respect a draw seemed a fair result. In the final analysis though, Torry continue to spurn far too many golden chances. They are creating plenty and have the ability to carve open defences with strong runs, accurate passes and great craft. All this is to no avail if the ball does not end up in the opposition net. With Pastor having netted four of Torry´s last six goals, it is imperative that others start taking their chances. Six games remain before the Christmas break, four of those away matches. After that Pastor returns to work in Brisbane and play football for Wolves. By then, others must have found their shooting boots.
With Muro managing a 1-0 win at the weekend, Torry drop a place but only five points covers them and the seven teams immediatley above them. Torry play four of those teams before Christmas, so it could all be a very different picture going into the holidays!
