The historical Vicente Garcia comes to an end
2016-08-30 18:52:00

CD Torrevieja reports that the Vicente Garcia will give way to the Nelson Mandela in hosting their matches from Sunday September 4 starting with the match against Orihuela CF, kicking off at 18:30.
Our stadium Vicente Garcia, was founded on November 18, 1971 in a match against Hercules CF. It is today one of the few natural grass fields that exist in Valencia. Anecdotally it is noteworthy that the field was finished with a lot of local help.  It had opened, but without the full stands; it only had the western stand but there were no steps for those behind the goals. Such was the fervor with the team, many construction workers, foremen and their crews worked selflessly, and many fans on their own came to help, completing the existing areas as they are today. The Vicente García hosted countless matches and promotions in their rise in league competition both 2nd Division B and 3rd Division and the Copa del Rey. In addition to others faced, we cite those in First Division: Elche (season 1978-1979), Murcia (1981-1982 and 1983-1984), Mallorca (1986/87), Espanol ( 1990/91 then coached by Luis Aragones) and Tenerife (1992/93 with Valdano on the bench).
The reasons to move to the Nelson Mandela are many, but the closure of the grandstand and changing rooms after the technical reports warning of danger for both players as well as municipal and club workers are the main one.
The club is in this position because it cannot afford the cost involved in the reseeding of the Municipal Stadium Vicente Garcia that would have to be made in the coming months, as well as the costs that would be needed by constructing new changing rooms for the visiting team, referees and home side.
Therefore, we have to say farewell to our historical  home in our community in spite of the club and all the fans who identified with it as the home of Torrevejense football for many years. We are sure we will be reborn with greater splendor among the rubble as the fans, the city and the club deserves.
Nevertheless, we continue with the same enthusiasm and we are confident that Nelson Mandela will turn into a real fortress and for this we need all the support of our fans and supporters.
