MATCH REPORT | Villarreal CF C 3 CD Torrevieja 2. Five goal thriller!

Match Report: Jefferson Scott / Photo: Joaquin Carrion.

It is a long haul from Torrevieja to Villareal and some might have thought that the CD Torrevieja team were "coach lagged" when they arrived as they were run ragged by a fast, skillful and confident young Villareal C outfit for the first period.
In a blistering opening 39 minutes, the hosts ripped Torry apart with strong running, accurate passing and the ability to always have an "extra" man available. In this time they rattled three past Marcano in the Torry goal and only his heroics prevented it from being six! Torry were being given a football lesson and had no answer to the powerful play of the future young Villareal stars. Alex, Chuca and Simon netted for Villareal C by the 40 minute mark and it was all over bar the shouting - and tallying up just how many they would win by!
Pablo scythed down Lewis as the enterprising young Torry striker was making a fast break and duly received a caution. Then on 41 minutes, Torry left back Alex beat two defenders with great skill and drove into the box whereupon Pablo hacked him down for a penalty. He duly got his second caution and was dismissed, with Torry being thrown a lifeline. Zapata cooly slotted home the spot kick to inspire Torry to a possible recovery.
in the remaining 4 minutes before the interval the visitors had two terrific efforts both saved by the excellent Fuoli in the home goal. He got a toe to deflect a Zapata shot that was goal bound and then a fingertip to concede another corner when again a goal looked certain. Torry started the second half with a numerical advantage and controlled the game with patient, possession play, spreading the ball wide where Luis Carlos and Matheus were able to zoom to the byeline and cross or cut inside for a shot.
Costa and Abraham had repalced Matheus and Melli respectively at the start of the second period adding more urgency to the Torry requirement. The visitors pounded the home goal and only further acrobatics from Fuoli kept them at bay. Corner after corner was conceded in order to keep Torry out and manager Gabi Correa played his final card, bringing on the powerful Salamanca for the lightning quick Lewis.
With 11 minutes remaining Matheus planted a lovely cross into the box where the muscular Salamanca rose majestically head and shoulders above his marker and looped a super header over Fuoli and into the top of the net. It created a tense finish as Torry presed for the equaliser that their second half superiority warranted. Luis Carlos went close, Zapata just failed to get on the end of a long cross, but time ran out for Torry who heroically failed to pull back that early three goal deficit.
This was a hugely entertaing match and one neutrals would have enjoyed. There were few of those present. Torry now have to pick themselves up for the visit of close rivals Orihuela this Sunday. The match is a 7pm kick off and will be played at the Nelson Mandela as the Town Hall has failed to properly look after the Vicente Garcia. There are still no dressing room facilities there, the covered stands remains out of commission and the pitch has been neglected. This match is designated a Dia del Club, with patrons paying €12 for admission, though season ticket holders will receive a discount and will only pay €8 upon presentation of their 2016-17 season ticket.
With Torry scoring five in their first two games and Orihuela playing out a 3-3 draw at the weekend, it looks like fans are in for a humdinger.
