Attacking Bonanza!

This was a pulsating contest in Valencia with both side creating a plethora of chances and wreaking havoc in each other's penalty area. It may have finsihed 2-2, but 5-5 would not have been out of character with the game. Prieto netted in the first half but was ruled offside, which was very contentious. He slammed the ball against the foot of the upright in the dying seconds of the game and he was not alone with efforts like this.

Carrasco swept the ball home from a yard out after Lewis got to the bye line and set it on a plate for him. The team were expansive in thir play with Vicente especially supporting attacks with pressing play and purposeful passing. Sanchez was orchestrating affairs from central midfield, whilst Higon was running riot on the right wing. For their part, Paterna were dynamic and unrelenting, seeking a win to take them to that all important 40 point mark and thus safe from relegation.

Carrasco's 12th minute goal was equalled by a superb Fran rocket from just outside the box in the 38th minute of play. He drove the ball low and into the corner of the net with Miguel floudering to get close to it. The temperature was rising and it was end to end play with Prieto spearheading Torry's forays and Lewis and Higon battling with strength and desire for every opportunity.

Paterna took the lead four minutes after the restart. They had troubled Torry all day with long throw ins and it was this tactic that now brought dividends. Nacho got it right into the goal area and as Miguel came out to claim it, Selu got his head to it first and guided it into the net. After that Paterna were on a high and their confience knew no bounds. Torry had to withstand much pressure and the manager made three changes in just less than ten minutes. On the hour Matej replaced Martin, then Burguillos took over from Captain Carrasco and with twenty minutes to play he brought on Suarez for Sanchez.

It was the little maestro who saved the day with a simply exquisite direct free kick 25 yards from goal. He placed it to perfection in the top left hand corner of the goal, Chencho leaping in that direction but unable to get close to it. It was a dramatic introduction as Suarez had only been on the field of play for four minutes. Both sides battled hard for the winner, Paterna grazing the crossbar and Prieto smashing the upright with a volley from just outside the box after a sweet pass from Suarez.

It finished level, Paterna edging one point closer to safety, with Torry staying mid table in no mans land. It is a 6pm kick off on Sunday at the Vicente Garcia when Torry host Recambios Colon, their penultimate home fixture of the season. They will seek to complete the league double over the new boys, whom they beat 3-1 away in November. Recambios sit immediately outside the relegation set, so will be battling for their survival.
