Match Report: CD Torrevieja 1 At.Saguntino 0. Timber!
2016-01-24 20:30:00

Match Report: Jefferson Scott / Photo: Joaquin Carrion.

Torry toppled the league leaders with a slender but deserved 1-0 victory, Lewis Allen netting the only goal of the game and his seventh in the last seven matches. Saguntino still head the listings with Torry up to 9th place and seven points adrift of the play off places.
It was a match full of power, passion and pace. Miguel kept a fifth consecutive clean sheet, doing so with another world class save near the finish. He must surely win Man of the Match soon, as his performances have been nothing short of brilliant. It was Jorge who lifted that trophy though after a masterful display of tenacity, determination and timely tackles. Though it was a first half desperate tackle from Javi Selvas which saved Torry from going behind. In doing so, the cultered Selvas injured his shoulder and had to be taken to hospital for treatment. He will be out of action for a month.
Matej slotted in for the suspended Vicente and bombed forward equally effectively to pin the visitors back for sustained periods. Luis Carlos was doing the same on the left side and Torry were creating chances skillfully. Lewis went close but the best first half opportunity fell to Higon. As defenders closed him down, he tried to control his shot, but failed to find the target.  Suarez was busy in possession, creating space at ease and searching for the telling ball.
Lewis is fearless. He only plays at break neck pace and with complete comittment. He got sliced down near the touchline and shuntered into the perimeter hoardings, requiring medical attention. Nothing stopped him and his persistence worried the league leaders throughout the match. He slotted home his goal from close range, making sure he arrived in the right place at the right time, after first class work down the right and a perfect cross from Sanchez. The second half was only three minutes old, and more goals looked likely.
That was not to be bu once more, every single player deserves praise and credit for their performance. The team has great self belief and is winning matches with attractive, entertaining football. Selvas will be sorely missed as he oozes class and ability. Vicente will return from suspension to provide cover, but Torry must maintain this momentum right to the end of the season if they are to contest the play off competition. On this performance you wouldn't bet against them!
