                                                        Goaless thriller
Torry had lost the opening game of the season by 3-0 in Ontinyent and seemed to have that heavy in their minds in the first half of this encounter. They were tentative, played a slow possession game and left lone striker Lewis to forage on his own with little in the way of close support. Neither side fashioned much in the way of a clear cut goal opportunity until Higon wriggled into the box just before half time.
It was as a consequence of some delicate interplay through the middle involving Suarez, but Higon had much work to do. He deftly feinted one way then drove hard only to make space for his shot which went tamely into the hands of the keeper. Prior to this, Suarez had tested Paredes in the visitor's goal with a free kick destined for the top left hand corner. He had also dropped a similar free kick on to the head of  Quintero who went close.
But Torry should have been one up earlier in the contest after Lewis was hauled down in the box when about to connect with a cross. He was incensed and remonstrated with the referee who was clearly unnerved. As Lewis continued his protest, the official cautioned him. He cautioned five Torry players all told, two from Ontinyent going into his notebook.
The second half was much better - from both sides. Torry continue to look vulnerable from set pieces and indeed a few corners had them on edge with a failure to clear their lines readily. Luckily Miguel is a phenomenal keeper, agile and athletic. He commands his area and is never afraid to come for crosses and assert himself. Down both flanks Vicente and Luis Carlos were playing with gusto and both were nip and tuck for the Pinada Blinds Man of the Match award, which was just edged by Luis.
It was a quieter game for Cesar and Higon which is perhaps why clear cut goal chances were thin on the ground. However, when Cesar was given the ball to his feet, he showed that he can ghost past defenders and cause panic in defenses. He did more of this in the second period and Torry battled hard for the winner. Sanchez was again a power of strength in the midfield, succumbing to cramp through his efforts. The manager played out his hand with all three substitutes but it was actually Ontinyent who nearly grabbed the late winner, rocking the woodwork before the final whistle.
This was a true test for Torry against a top four side who are genuine play off contenders. However, Torry too desire to be in that elite group, and will work even harder to achieve that objective. It is off to Borriol at the weekend, where the winning thread needs to be regained.
