Home and away fans left the José Díez Iborra ground in Elche on Saturday evening pondering the score line, some bemused, others bewildered. Torry hammered their hosts, blasted the woodwork until it was thought the framework would crack, but only left with a single point. Indeed, all they needed was Toyah Wilcox blasting out "It's a mystery" over the P.A. to confirm their inner thoughts!

Torry had switched off to allow tall striker Nuha to nod home from a corner against the run of play, but knuckled down to pepper the Ilicitano goal with a string of great efforts. Brani shot over after Carrasco lobbed the defence and left him with only the keeper to beat. Cesar coolly executed his goal after out pacing the defence. Then Juanma struck a post, Brani reacted first and saw his 10 yard shot deflected for a corner. Jorge was denied from the resultant set piece.

It was more of the same in the second period. Juanma was having his best game yet in a Torry shirt. Vicente and Luis Carlos were forging down the flanks and adding vim and urgency to attacks. Pedreño deployed a back five, with Jorge, Metej and Quintero solid in the centre. Sanchez was grafting in the middle of the park, whilst Brani scorched past defenders with blistering pace. He almost scored a wonder goal late on when he threaded a path though five defenders, this time from the right flank. His angle was acute but he fired on target only to see Juanma stand firm and palm his shot away to safety.

This was vintage Torry, dominating play, controlling the game and creating exciting chances. The fact that the team could not squeeze home the winner was utterly frustrating, but the side was not wanting for effort. Ilicitano held third spot ahead of this clash, but it was Torry who looked like they were the top four promotion chasing outfit. With the latest signings, there is an abundance of confidence that moving up the table is only a matter of games away.

Torry has the chance to make that next step forward on Sunday, when they kick off against Castellon at midday. The current champions may be facing two of their key personnel from last term, as Ruben Suarez and Javi Selvas signed for Torry last week and will be in the squad for this tantalising clash. As a reward to loyal fans, the club will be providing a free paella to supporters after the game.
