On The Up!

Torry got the win and the three points that the fans hope will kick-start their season with what was a comfortable 2-0 win against Muro who now prop up the Group 6 league table.

Torry started brightly and deservedly took the lead in the eight minute when a great ball from Luis Carlos down the left found Cesar whose low cross picked out Lewis at the far post, who had time to control the ball and tap it in for his first goal in Torry's colours.

After more Torry pressure a through ball down the centre of the pitch after 25 minutes was chased down by the energetic Lewis, his shot was handled by the keeper who had advanced outside his area. The referee, who had already shown a willingness to brandish a card got this decision right and showed a red. Within five minutes Torry had made the numerical advantage count and another good burst down the left by Luis Carlos led to a cross which Carrasco neatly converted at the near post.

Torry were now in control as Muro defended deep and left one man up front to chase lost causes. A few minutes later Burguillos hammered in a goal-bound shot that unfortunately hit Carrasco, taking him off his feet, which saved Muro from going further behind.

The referee had already booked Martin for a fairly innocuous challenge and managed to book three more players before half time, Cesar for Torry and two visiting players, one for an off the ball incident with Metej. The only other incident of note came when Carrasco wriggled his way through the Muro penalty area only to be foiled at the last minute.

A busy few minutes at the start of the second half could have brought a third goal as Lewis had a couple of efforts flash narrowly wide, but thereafter Torry seemed to be content with their lead and there didn't seem to be any urgency to add to their tally. They coped easily with the occasional Muro attack but didn't take the opportunity to improve their goal difference. The referee however was keen to add to his tally and as well as issuing a further three yellows to Torry players, he cautioned a few Muro players and awarded a straight red when Sanchez got a hand pushed in his face in the 72nd minute.

Torry failed to press home their numerical advantage and apart from a few substitutions there was little of note until the last five minutes when Juanfran's header from another Luis Carlos cross brought a flying save from Muro's reserve keeper. Juanfran then saw another header from a first time cross from Vicente Boix go narrowly wide. The match drifted to a close, but not before the referee showed another red card, when the linesman drew his attention to some comments made by one of the Muro bench.

A welcome win, but there will be more difficult opponents, starting away at Novelda next time out!
