So Much Better
An incensed Juanfran almost spat the words out to me after the game explaining that the handball that ruled his goal invalid was not by him but by the defender. The manager joined in to say the assistant referee with the best view had not flagged, but the referee had awarded the free kick from a less than perfect position.
Pedreo was aware that a point in Villareal was a decent result, but more conscious of the fact that his team's second half performance warranted all three, which would have been thebest tonicto take the club out of the relegation places.
The first half belonged clearly to the hosts who controlled the game readily. They had most of the possession, were quicker and had much better movement and availability than Torry. They failed once they reached the box, with woeful finishing and some dogged defending from the visitors who played five along the back.
It was once more a surprising line up the manager chose, leaving captain Jorge on the bench along with keeper Oscar. He is nothing if not his own man. Torry were ineffectual, lacklustre and looking every inch a side in the bottom three. At the interval, the manager rousted his team and got the response he needed and deserved.
The second period belonged to Torry who netted twice and must consider themselves unlucky not to have secured that elusive first win of the season. Both "goals" came within a minute of each other. After sustained Torry pressure, a cross from the left was moved on to Juanfran who rammed it home. It looked good but the referee blew for an infringement which few could comprehend. He indicated hand ball, with Juanfran looking to the skies and wondering if his Torry star is truly blighted.
One minute later a super move saw captain Carrasco in possession thirty yards out and faced with a wall of defenders. As he saw Cesar make a dart on goal, he cleverly lifted the ball over the defenders and into the path of Cesar, who made no mistake. No mistake this time from the officials, who judged that Cesar had inched ahead of the last outfield defender and was offside. It was close, but correct.
Two points from their opening five games is a horrendous stat of the Salineros, who seek to capture that first win at home on Sunday against Muro with a 6pm kick off.
Team: Miguel Serna, Vicente Boix, Quintero, Matej, Edi, Martn (Snchez 74), Juanma (Jorge 81), Carrasco, Juanfran, Csar (Lewis 70) y Luis Carlos.
