It was a bold move by Pedreño to change the team selection and formation, allowing Lewis his league debut to lead the attack with Juanfran moved to the left wing. Croatian teenager Metej replaced Cavas. There was no place for Adrian in the 16, but Martin did command a seat on the bench, now restored to full fitness.
It was a fairly even first forty five, Lewis and Brani looking very bright and full of intent. Lewis made some great passes and Juanfran got into position for a couple of efforts, but did not trouble the home keeper, Adri. A superb forty yard pass from Metej to fellow countryman Brani skipped over the head of his marker and Brani collected the ball with exquisite control. He beat another defender and as Adri advanced, he dragged the ball around him to give him sight of the open goal. Just as he was about to strike, Adri somehow got his fingertips to the ball to ease it out of range.
Sanchez broke fast from defence to create four against three but Saguntino covered well and Torry did not find the space nor the pass they needed to exploit their advantage. Another excellent opportunity was spurned when Lewis fed Juanfran into the edge of the box to unleash a shot well wide of the mark. Lewis might have considered the shot himself, but acted selflessly.
Saguntino finished the half the stronger, winning a series of corners and making the Torry defence work hard to keep them at bay. The game was being fiercely contested and it looked as one goal would settle matters. The second half was only five minutes old when that precious goal arrived. Saguntino took a quick free kick and played the ball to the left wing. Vicente jockeyed with his opponent but could not prevent him delivering a deep cross to the far post. There, Fran Gámez volleyed home with clinical precision.
Torry's plight was not helped by the dismissal of Carrasco for a second cautionable offence in the 64th minute. Saguntino exploited their advantage and pressed for a second. But it was Torry who created the better chances. Cesar replaced Lewis, who had taken a bad knock early in the second half. Cesar skipped past three defenders and crossed the ball where Brani collected and aligned his shot. The Saguntino keeper was smartly off his line to smother the on target effort.
Jorge joined the attacking formation and he too went close from inside the box, but again his effort was blocked. Juanma and Martin entered proceedings and although Juanma won several fouls, these came to nought. The crowd started to abuse him, believing he was being dishonest in winning these free kicks, but he was not. Saguntino is a physical side.
The four minutes of time added on failed to see another Torry revival similar to that against Borriol, so it is a mere one point from three games with the spotlight now moving to Sunday when Torry take on Alzira at 6pm at the Vicente Garcia. A win is urgently required.
